Dr Johanna Niegel is the Chairman of the Vaduz Centre of Verein STEP as well as the Verein's current chairman. She was awarded the STEP Founder’s Award in 2017. Johanna joined Allgemeines Treuunternehmen (ATU), Liechtenstein, as head of its Russia & CIS Desk after having worked with international law firms in Moscow, New York, Budapest and Vienna. Johanna has specialised in international private foundations, trusts and tax, teaching trust law in the master programme at the University of Liechtenstein. She has been editing Trusts & Trustees ‘Private Foundations: A World Review’ since its inception in 2004 and is also an editor to the survey book entitled ‘Private Foundations World Survey’ (Oxford University Press, August 2013).  

Johanna took a doctorate in law at the University of Vienna Law School, Austria, and graduated with a master’s degree from Columbia University School of Law, New York, having obtained a Fulbright scholarship. She was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and holds the Parker School Recognition of Achievement with honors in International and Foreign Law. More recently, Johanna also obtained an LL.M. in International Taxation from the University of Liechtenstein.
